I'll admit I was sceptical when EONO sent me a spool of transparent white PETG. After a little tuning it turned out to print beautifully, in some cases better than most of the PLA I'd tried.
A budget PETG from Amazon
EONO is a Chinese manufacturer that sells on Amazon, and back in August 2021 they kindly sent me a 1 kg spool of their transparent white PETG to test. Those of you who follow me know I like PETG and I print a lot of it, with AzureFilm being one of my favourites. So the bar was quite high.
The unboxing is simple: a resealable bag that opens without scissors, with silica gel inside. The spool is wound really neatly, and when I measured the diameter it was very consistent.
Finding the sweet spot
Every filament, and every spool, has its own perfect settings. Instead of printing a calibration tower, I started with a vase in vase mode and slowly adjusted the temperature as it went up. My first attempts had bed adhesion problems, so I raised the bed to 85 °C. After that it printed smoothly, and the sweet spot on my machine was a nozzle temperature of 232 °C. The vase, printed with a 0.8 mm nozzle, came out really cute.
The Benchy also had some adhesion trouble at first. A bit of hair gel on the bed fixed it, and the result was solid and very clean.
What I printed
- A stacking box: in transparent filament you can see what's inside, which is really practical. I'll probably use this filament a lot for that kind of thing.
- The filament astronaut: all the details came out, but because it's transparent you can see the infill pattern inside. I didn't think about that when slicing, so plan for it.
- A carabiner to test strength. It looks and feels nice and sturdy.
With the right settings and a little tweaking, this PETG prints really well and has an affordable price. My experience with it was very good.
