Back in 2017 I wanted a cinematic look straight out of my Sony a6500, with no colour grading afterwards. This short tutorial shows the picture profile settings I was using to get it.
My cinematic picture profile
Everything happens in the Picture Profile menu (on my a6500 it's on page 11 of the first tab). It's off by default. I use PP2, which I customised like this:
Black level: -15, Gamma: Cine 3 or Cine 4, Colour mode: S-Gamut3.Cine (or S-Gamut3), Saturation: -5 and Colour phase: 0.
The result is a softer, more filmic image right out of the camera, which is great when you don't have time to sit down and grade every clip.
Play with it
This is just one combination. Every picture profile lets you change gamma, colour mode, saturation and more, so the possibilities are endless. Use mine as a starting point and tweak it until you find the look that suits your taste. For this video I shot with the a6500, the Sony 18-105mm and a Meike 35mm.
