Time is worth more than money: money can be earned again, time can't. In early 2020 I opened this video with a short film made entirely from stock footage, to show how Artgrid had changed my workflow as a father of twins.
None of it was shot by me
The short at the start of the video is about time, and not a single clip in it is mine. It's all stock footage. Time has always been a fight for me. With twins, time management is key. If you're a creator, you know the feeling: missing that last shot to close a video, not being in the right place at the right moment, or not posting a vlog because you had no b-roll. If you say it's never happened to you, I think you're lying.
What Artgrid is
I'd already made a video about Artlist, which I still use for music. Artgrid came from the same people, and it works the same way: a footage licensing site with unlimited access for a subscription. The difference is that there were three tiers at the time:
Junior: standard 1080p footage, around $25. Creator: the one I was using, with 4K and higher quality, around $40. Pro: around $50, with access to log footage for real pro colour grading.
Why it's different
The footage comes from filmmakers who have a real role on the site, which makes it different from other stock sites I'd seen. Searching by keywords is easy, and under each clip you find the whole story it belongs to, so if the first clip isn't exactly right, you'll find what you need among the related shots. You can also choose the colour grade before downloading. It's like having pro crews working for you.
Good to pro, in minutes
For me, Artgrid takes a video from good to pro. It adds that missing step of professionalism when you're short on time. In a couple of minutes you search, find, download and you're ready to go. And all the time I save, I can spend with my family. How important is time for you?
