Finally! A Solar Camera That Actually Works All Day // aosu T2 Pro

As a father of twins, my job is to protect my family and my house from two things: strangers getting in, and me falling off a ladder while installing a camera. The aosu SolarCam T2 Pro solves both, without a single wire.

Two cameras, one solar panel

What I love most is that you don't need a power outlet: a solar panel collects all the energy it needs. aosu says about 1.5 hours of sun can power it for 24 hours, so you just need a spot with an hour or two of sunlight a day. Mine gets two or three. Over three or four cloudy days with no direct sun, it kept charging, just more slowly. As long as there's some light, you don't have to think about it, even in winter.

It's a dual camera: a very wide-angle lens on top and a pan-tilt-zoom camera underneath. They're marketed as 3K + 3K, and the combined exported video comes out a bit over 4K. The quality is great day and night. The clever part is how they work together. The wide camera senses movement across the whole area, and the lower camera turns and zooms to that exact spot, then locks on and follows the subject. It followed me all the way into the house. With a single moving camera, if it's pointing left and something happens on the right, it simply won't see it.

AI, storage and talk-back

This is my third or fourth security camera, and they all have AI now. Here you can split detection into people, pets, vehicles and animals, plus lawn monitoring. You can also fix the lower camera on a sensitive spot, like a door or a wall someone could climb, while the wide lens watches everything else. I put in a 64 GB SD card, and compression is so good that it's practically unlimited for me. There's a cloud service with one month free, but I prefer the SD. The downside: if someone steals the card, you lose the footage, though you still get the notification.

Two-way talk, with a deeper "Uncle Voice" option, is fun for impressing the kids or calling out to them in the pool. But here in Italy nobody leaves parcels on the porch, so I don't really need the "please leave the package at the door" kind of use.

Installation and a hidden advantage

Unboxing felt premium. The camera is sturdy, and the panel screws on top or can go elsewhere on a cable. I mounted it in 5 minutes and configured it in 3. Every other camera I've installed needed LAN or a power cable, and running that cable is the real hassle. There's another advantage too: burglars often cut the electricity, and wired cameras go dark. If your Wi-Fi stays powered, these solar cameras keep recording through a power cut or a storm.

One quirk: the app installed itself in Italian with no language option inside. The workaround is to change the app's language in the iPhone Settings. I covered a corner of the garden I couldn't before, and I'm planning to add more T2 Pros where I have no power.
